NEW ORLEANS – Despite not competing this past weekend, the University at Albany track & field program retained rankings in both the men’s and women’s regional poll released by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Monday. The men fell three spots to eighth and the women fell five spots to 10th.

Army remained atop the men’s poll for the second straight week, while the rest of the top five saw turnover. Connecticut, who will host the Northeast Challenge this weekend, jumped one spot to second, swapping places with Northeastern, which dropped one spot to third. Syracuse and Rhode Island each jumped two spots to fourth and fifth, respectively. Cornell improved the most since last week, jumping seven spots to ninth. UMass Lowell fell two spots to 10th, and UMBC jumped five spots in the Mid-Atlantic poll to 18th as the only other America East schools to earn a top-15 spot.

Like the men’s poll, the top team remained unchanged and the rest of the top five was new. Cornell was first for the second straight week. Dartmouth jumped two spots to second, followed by Harvard, which fell one spot to third. Syracuse jumped three spots to fourth, and Connecticut fell two spots to fifth. St. John’s, which drew sixth, improved the most this week, jumping seven spots. No other America East schools were ranked this week.

Without a meet last weekend, neither the men nor the women drew any new Northeast top-eight performances. The men currently hold 11 such performances and the women hold seven, including the region-leading men’s high jump from Matthew Campbell and the women’s 4x100m.

The Great Danes will send a small group to Jamaica this weekend for the UTECH Classic, while the remainder of the team will visit Connecticut for the Northeast Challenge.
