Track & Field/Cross Country Announces 2017 Wall of Fame Inductees

UAlbany Sports Information   10-06-2017

ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany track & field and cross country program has announced its selections for the 2017 Wall of Fame class. The Class of 2017, the third group of inductees, consists of five men and five women.

“Each of this year’s inductees really helped moved the program from the level it was when they arrived to the next by the time they left,” said Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Roberto Vives. “Each really knew the value of ‘team’. If I had to point to a common thread among the members of this group, they are all people who made a difference in their time to project our program to where we are today.”

The first Wall of Fame class was enshrined in 2012, but the second wasn’t enshrined until 2016. This third class is the first in what plans to be an annualized event.

For the second consecutive year, the Wall of Fame induction ceremony will take place on the same day as the UAlbany XC Invitational. The first race of the day is the Jason DeJoy Open/Alumni 5K, which is open to the public.

The inductees for the UAlbany Track & Field and Cross Country Wall of Fame Class of 2017 are:

Junior Burnett (2007)
Laura Cummings (2010)
Bradley Dean (1994)
Ricardo Estremera (2009)
Jennifer Gurrant (2009)
Janna Johnston (1999)
Paul Lagno (2012)
Alyssa Lotmore (2007)
William Vanos (1994)
Joy Williams (2004)

The induction dinner ceremony will be held Saturday, October 14 in the SEFCU Arena Hall of Fame Room starting at 5:30 p.m. The 51st UAlbany XC Invitational will start at 12:00 p.m. Spots are still available for the Jason DeJoy 5K. Those interested can follow the link above to register.
