ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany track & field program will send two representatives to compete in the 2017 USATF Junior National Championships in Sacramento, Calif. The women's team will send rising sophomore Hannah Reinhardt to compete in the 5,000m, and the men will sent rising sophomore Omahri Sturdivant to compete in the triple jump.
Reinhardt, a distance runner from Clarence, N.Y., has a personal best of 17:30.63 in the 5,000m, which she ran at the Florida Relays. The time ranks second on the team this season behind Cara Sherman's 17:20.18 at the same meet. Reinhardt placed second in the 3,000m at the America East Indoor Championships in 9:50.54, and placed ninth in the same event at ECAC Indoor Championships in 9:42.63. At ECAC Outdoor Championships, Reinhardt placed 10th in the 3,000m in 10:10.03.
Sturdivant, a jumper from Amsterdam, N.Y., holds a season best of 49-10.00 in the triple jump, which ranked third on the team behind Jordan Crump-King (51-05.75) and Devon Willis (51-02.25). Sturdivant placed fifth in the triple jump at the America East Indoor Championships in 47-09.25 and fourth at the America East Outdoor Championships in 47-08.50. Additionally, Sturdivant has jumped a wind-aided 50-02.75.
This year's championships will be held at Sacramento State's Hornet Stadium. Last year, Anika Hibbard and Cara Sherman participated in Junior Outdoor Championships. Hibbard placed 10th in the high jump and Sherman placed ninth in the 5,000m.
Reinhardt will compete in a field of 19 on Friday, June 23 at 12:00 p.m. Eastern. Sturdivant will compete in a field of 13 on Saturday, June 24 at 6:50 p.m. Eastern. The Junior Championships take place concurrently with the Senior Championships, which will serve as a qualifier for the IAAF World Championships in London later this summer.
