Nate Hatalsky named CAA Defensive Player of the Week
ALBANY, N.Y. -- University at Albany senior linebacker Nate Hatalsky was named Colonial Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, two days after he led the Great Dane with 15 tackles in a 28-14 win over Monmouth.
Hatalsky had eight solo tackles and seven assisted tackles for a defense that limited the Hawks to just 217 total yards. Monmouth tailback Pete Guerriero, the fourth-leading rusher in the Football Championship Subdivision entering the game, was limited to 26 yards on 13 carries.
A former walk-on who earned a full scholarship before this season, Hatalsky won the starting linebacker middle linebacker job during training camp. The former basketball and football player at Mechanicville High School in Mechanicville, N.Y., now leads the CAA with 36 tackles. He's been the Great Danes' leading tackler in all three games this season.
The Great Danes next play Saturday, when they host Villanova at Tom and Mary Casey Stadium in their CAA opener.
