Men Sixth, Women 11th in Week 1 Northeast Rankings

NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association released Monday its inaugural top-15 regional rankings for the 2018 indoor track season. In the Northeast region, the University at Albany men rank sixth and the women rank 11th.

Connecticut leads the men’s Northeast poll, followed by Army, Northeastern, Cornell, and Rhode Island. UMass Lowell and New Hampshire rank 11th and 12th, respectively.

In the women’s poll, Dartmouth laid claim to the top spot in the first poll, followed by Cornell, Brown, Connecticut, and Syracuse. No other America East schools were ranked in the women’s poll. 

The men’s team boasts eight Northeast top-eight performances through the early part of the season. Ryan Udvadia ranks first in the 5,000m in 14:15.58. The men’s 4x400m relay of Harmodio Cruz III, Walter Briggs, Jordan Lawrence, and Myles Banfield ranks second in 3:13.96. Devon Willis ranks second in the triple jump in 49-05.75. Kingsley Ogbonna ranks third in the high jump in 6-10.25. Cruz III ranks fifth in the 400m in 49.49, a flat-track time which converts to 48.72 on a banked track. Kyle Gronostaj ranks fifth in the 5,000m in 14:29.06. Finally, Victor Ortiz Rivera ranks seventh in the 3,000m in 8:21.33.

The women’s team claims four Northeast top-eight performances. Hannah Reinhardt ranks third in the 5,000m in 17:02.52. Dayleen Santana Rodriguez ranks fourth in the 60m in 7.50. Anika Hibbard ranks fourth in the high jump in 5-07.25. Finally, Cara Sherman ranks eighth in the 5,000m in 17:25.55.

The Great Danes return to action on Thursday at the Columbia Invitational with the team’s first trip to the Armory since 2015.
