Track & Field Announces Indoor Schedule
ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany track & field program has announced its competition schedule for the 2017-18 indoor season. The schedule features one home meet, two trips to the Ocean Breeze Complex in Staten Island, five meets in Boston, and a return to the Armory in New York City.
After hosting the annual intra-squad scrimmage on November 28, the Great Danes will see their first competition in two early-season meets starting on December 2 at Boston University for the BU Season Opener. This is the second year in which the program has brought a significant presence to a live competition before the New Year. One week later, the multis competitors will get their first opportunity to compete in their full events at UConn’s Multi Meet, which runs December 7-8.
The season starts in earnest after the New Year. The first meet of 2018 will be the Great Dane Classic held at the Ocean Breeze Complex for the third consecutive season. The lone home meet on the schedule will be held January 13.
On January 20, the team will make a return trip to Middlebury’s Winterfell meet after making an inaugural appearance last season. The following week, the Great Danes will visit the Armory in New York City for the first time since 2015 for the Columbia Invitational. Multis competitors will have another opportunity to compete in their full events at this meet, which will run over three days from January 25-27.
A new meet on the schedule this season is Harvard’s Crimson Elite Invitational on February 2. It is the first time in the Division I era that UAlbany will compete at Harvard. That same weekend, the team will make its first return of the season to Boston University for the Scarlet & White Meet on February 3.
On February 9, the team will split up into two groups. The larger contingent will make a final trip to Ocean Breeze for the Fastrack National Invitational, while a smaller group will compete at the Tyson Invitational at the University of Arkansas from February 9-10.
A week off after the split weekend leads into the America East Indoor Championships at Boston University from February 23-24. It is the second consecutive season the championship meet will be held at Boston University after bouncing between the Armory and Ocean Breeze following the Terriers’ move into the Patriot League.
The Boston University Last Chance Meet will be held on February 25 for anyone still needing a qualifying mark for further postseason competition opportunities. March 2-4 will mark the fifth and final trip of the season to Boston University for the IC4A and ECAC Indoor Championships, where both the men and the women won the team title in 2017. The schedule fully concludes March 9-10 at NCAA Indoor Championships at Texas A&M, which will host for the second consecutive year.
