Track & Field Releases 2019-20 Schedule
ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany track & field program has announced its schedule for the upcoming 2019-20 season. The indoor schedule features two home meets, six trips to Boston, and three meets at Staten Island’s Ocean Breeze facility.
The season unofficially opens with the RACC Classic Intra-squad Scrimmage on December 2, before the team takes their first trip to Boston on December 7 for both the Crimson Opener at Harvard and the Sharon Colyer-Danville Season Opener at Boston University, the latter of which will again play host to the America East Indoor Championships.
Following the semester break, the team returns to action on January 11 with the Great Dane Classic at Ocean Breeze. January 18 marks a return to Middlebury College for the Winterfell Meet. One week later, starting on January 23, the team will visit the Armory in New York City for the Dr. Sander Columbia Challenge.
On January 31, the team will return to Harvard for the Crimson Elite Invitational. The following week the team will head to Boston University for the Bruce Lehane Scarlet & White Invitational.
The biggest change on the new schedule is a second “home” meet for the Great Danes. The UAlbany Winter Classic will be held February 7 at Ocean Breeze.
February 14-15 marks a split weekend for the Great Danes. Most of the team will return to Boston University for the David Hemery Valentine Invitational, while qualifiers will head to the Tyson Invitational at the University of Arkansas.
The America East Indoor Championships take placed from February 21-22 at Boston University. The next week the team will take advantage of the Fastrack Last Chance Meet at Ocean Breeze, before returning to Boston University for the final time March 6-8 for the IC4A and ECAC Indoor Championships. NCAA Indoor Championships, held this year in Albuquerque, N.M., are March 13-14.
The outdoor schedule also features two home events and the usual early-season, warm-weather destination invitationals. Outdoor will begin March 20-21 with the Spring Break Classic in Puerto Rico. April begins with both the Stanford Invitational and the Florida Relays.
Regional rival Connecticut will host its Northeast Challenge on April 11, ahead of UAlbany hosting its first of two events, the UAlbany Combined Events Invitational, a new meet on the schedule, on April 16-17. In prior years, this weekend would have been reserved for the UAlbany Spring Classic, which has been shifted to May this year.
With the weekend open to the bulk of the team, the Great Danes will plan to take a larger group to the Virginia Challenge on April 17-18. April 18 will also see the running of the Williams Invitational at Williams College.
The 2020 Penn Relays Carnival is scheduled for April 23-25, just ahead of RPI’s Capital District Classic on April 25. America East Outdoor Championships, hosted by Vermont, will be held May 2-3.
UAlbany’s Spring Classic will be held May 8 this year, one week after conference championships. Multi-events make a return to IC4A and ECAC Outdoor Championships this year, with the women’s heptathlon and men’s decathlon held May 14-15 at Monmouth University, while Princeton will host the remaining events on May 16-17.
NCAA East Preliminary Championships return to the University of Kentucky May 28-30, while NCAA Outdoor Championships spend their second year at the University of Texas on June 10-13 before returning next year to the University of Oregon.
