Track & Field Releases 2018-19 Schedule

UAlbany Sports Information   12-05-2018

ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany track & field program has announced its schedule for the upcoming 2018-19 season.  The indoor schedule features one home meet, two trips to Ocean Breeze in Staten Island, one trip to the Armory in New York City, and five trips to Boston.

The 2018 portion of the indoor schedule kicks off on November 26 and 27 with the annual RACC Classic Intra-squad Scrimmage.  On December 1, the team will face its first real competition at Boston University’s Sharon Collyer-Daniville Season Opener.

The team will not compete again until January 12 at the lone home meet of the indoor season, the Great Dane Classic at the Ocean Breeze Complex in Staten Island.  A week later, on January 19, the team will make its annual trip to Middlebury’s new facility for the Winterfell Meet.  January 24-26 features the team at the Armory for the only time this season.  The multis athletes will get their first shot at their full events at the Dr. Sander Invitational, while the rest of the team will compete in the Columbia Challenge portion of the Invitational featuring a smaller yet higher-quality competition field.

The following week, the team will visit Boston for two meets.  On February 1 the sprinters will compete at Harvard’s Crimson Elite Invitational for the second straight year, before joining their teammates the following day at Boston University’s Bruce Lehane Scarlet & White Invitational.

February 8 marks the final trip to Ocean Breeze for the Fastrack National Invitational.  That same weekend, a selection of qualifying competitors will visit the University of Arkansas for the Tyson Invitational.

America East Indoor Championships return to Boston University for another season on February 22-23.  February 24 features Boston University’s annual Last Chance Meet.

The most significant change on the schedule comes from the absence of IC4A and ECAC Indoor Championships for the full team.  The multis athletes will compete but UAlbany will not feature a full competition roster this season.

The indoor season concludes with NCAA Indoor Championships, which, this year, will be hosted by Texas A&M University on March 8-9.

The outdoor season begins on March 15-16 with the annual trip to Puerto Rico for the Spring Break Classic.  The team will continue their search for warmer weather through the early part of the season with meets at the University of Central Florida on March 22-23 and the University of Florida on March 28-30.  The Florida Relays shares a weekend with the Stanford Invitational out west.

April 13 marks the first meet for which the team will stay in the northeast, when they compete at UConn’s Northeast Challenge.  The following weekend, the team will split.  Some will visit the University of Virginia for the Virginia Challenge, while others will stay home for the UAlbany Spring Classic, from April 18-20.

The biggest meet of the outdoor season, the Penn Relays Carnival, takes place April 25-27 this year.  RPI will host its Capital District Classic on April 27 as well.

UAlbany will play host for the America East Outdoor Championships for the second time in the last four years on May 4-5.  A week later, the team will compete at IC4A and ECAC Outdoor Championships.  The meet has, in recent tradition, been held at Princeton University, but the venue has not yet been decided for the 2019 edition.

Championship season continues with the NCAA East Preliminary Championships on May 23-25, this year hosted by the University of North Florida, marking a return to Jacksonville after a two-year hiatus.  NCAA Outdoor Championships, at the University of Texas, will be held June 5-8.

The post-collegiate season features the USATF Junior Outdoor Championships and the USATF Outdoor Championships, the latter of which will be held July 25-28 at Drake University.
