TORONTO – University at Albany sprinter Myles Banfield placed fourth overall in the men’s 400m at the Ontario Junior/Senior Championships over the weekend in his hometown Toronto.
Banfield, a rising senior, last competed on May 13 at the IC4A Outdoor Championships at Princeton University. There, he placed fourth in the men’s 400m with a finishing time of 48.12. His best time of the collegiate season came at the America East Outdoor Championships the week before, where he took the individual 400m title in 47.27.
On Friday, Banfield qualified sixth overall in 46.83, tying his second-best mark ever originally set at the 2016 East Preliminary Championships. Banfield’s best time before the weekend, 46.77, ranks fourth in program history outdoors and is the UAlbany freshman record.
Banfield improved his best mark in Saturday’s final, placing fourth overall in 46.56. The time ranks second in program history, behind only Joe Greene’s 46.34 from 2009. Banfield was one of four runners under 47 seconds in the final, spearheaded by overall champion Philip Osei, who crossed the line in 45.72.
