UAlbany Sports Information   02-26-2018

NEW ORLEANS - The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association has released its latest poll, the first since the 2017-18 indoor conference championships. The University at Albany women rank seventh and the men rank ninth.

The top four in the women’s poll remained unchanged, with Dartmouth retaining its top spot followed by Harvard, Syracuse, and Connecticut. Columbia, which improved two spots from last week, moved into fifth. UAlbany improved one spot from its position last week, while elsewhere in the America East, UMass Lowell dropped two spots to ninth and New Hampshire held steady at 12th. Providence saw the biggest improvement since last week, jumping 11 spots to break into the poll at 10th.

In the men’s poll, Syracuse and Connecticut remained first and second, respectively. They were followed by Brown, Cornell, and Northeastern rounding out the top five, each of whom improved two spots from last week. UAlbany improved three spots to leapfrog UMass Lowell, who just broke the men’s streak of 12 consecutive America East Indoor titles. The Riverhawks landed 10th this week, one spot back of where they were last week, and one spot behind the UAlbany men.

The women’s team currently holds five Northeast top-eight performances, three of which came at the America East Indoor Championships. Dayleen Santana Rodriguez ranks second in the 60m in 7.40, improving upon her own school record in the event. Stephanie Osuji ranks third in the 60m with her personal-best 7.43. Finally, Kiyah Owens ranks sixth in the 400m with her personal-best 54.78.

The men now have eight Northeast top-eight performances, with three new additions coming over the weekend. Osiris Nicholson ranks fifth in the 200m in 21.37, a mark that set a new school record. Harmodio Cruz III ranks fifth in the 400m in 47.71. Finally, David Carlson ranks sixth in the weight throw after his personal-best 62-05.25 from Sunday’s Last Chance Meet at Boston University.

This weekend, the Great Danes will return to Boston University to defend their 2016-17 titles in the IC4A and ECAC Indoor Championships.
