He was named alongside women’s track performer Elinor Purrier from New Hampshire, women’s field performer Keishorea Armstrong from Binghamton, and men’s field performer Michael Shanahan from New Hampshire. Gibbons, a junior hurdler from St. Albans, N.Y., placed second overall in the men’s 60m hurdles at the Dr. Sander Invitational Columbia Challenge on Friday night. Two weeks ago at the Great Dane Classic, Gibbons ran a personal-best 7.96 in the hurdles, tying the school record set in 2009 by Jean Juste. Last weekend, broke that record with a 7.86 in the trials, and improved once more with a 7.82 in the finals. Gibbons was one of four Great Danes to set school records at the Challenge, with Dayleen Santana Rodriguez in the women’s 60m, Stephanie Osuji in the women’s 200m, and Tara Belinsky in the women’s shot put. Tuesday marked the third consecutive week that Gibbons has been named men’s track performer by the America East. He remains the only Great Dane to earn multiple performer awards this season. UAlbany will return to Boston this weekend to compete at Harvard’s Crimson Elite Invitational and Boston University’s Scarlet & White Meet.
