Mitchell Named Performer of the Week

UAlbany Sports Information   04-19-2017

BOSTON – University at Albany freshman thrower Adrian Mitchell has been named America East Men’s Field Performer of the Week, the conference offices announced Wednesday.  He shares the award with men’s track performer Jamal Cody from UMBC, women’s track performer Elinor Purrier from New Hampshire, and women’s field performer Kaylyn Golden from Stony Brook.

Mitchell competed at the Beach Invitational hosted by Long Beach State over the weekend.  In the open division of the men’s javelin, Mitchell recorded the seventh best mark of 227-02.00.  It is a personal-best for Mitchell, whose previous best of 219-10.00 broke the freshman school record of 215-03.00 that he set in the first meet of the season.  Since he threw 215’ in Puerto Rico, Mitchell has ranked second in school history in the javelin, and now is less than one meter away from the overall school record of 229-10.00 set in 2007 by Marc Pallozzi.

Mitchell was named Performer of the Week for the second time this season, the only UAlbany student-athlete to be named more than once since outdoor started.  Other Great Danes to earn performer honors this season include Robert Harris III, Dayleen Santana Rodriguez, Chinwe Igwe, and Jonathan Eustache.

UAlbany will host its only home meet of the season, the Spring Classic, on Saturday, April 22.
