SEFCU Arena gets new videoboard after $1 million gift
ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany has unveiled a new video scoreboard in SEFCU Arena that was made possible by a $1 million donation from Ed Swyer and Stuyvesant Plaza.
The new board, which hangs above center court, will debut for the upcoming men’s and women’s basketball seasons.
“UAlbany is so fortunate to have stalwart supporters like Ed Swyer and Stuyvesant Plaza,” University at Albany President Havidán Rodríguez said. “This is an example of the kind of philanthropy that is critical to everything we want to achieve. Whether for athletics, facilities, or student scholarships, major gifts—like this state-of-the-art scoreboard—are transformative.”
"I want to express my sincere gratitude to Ed Swyer and Stuyvesant Plaza for their generous investment in our athletic programs,” UAlbany Director of Athletics Mark Benson said. “The Stuyvesant Plaza scoreboard will greatly enhance the fan experience in the SEFCU Arena, especially for our students and season-ticket holders. Additionally, this scoreboard's technology will enable us to engage the corporate community in news ways with added value. This will lead to increased revenues to support all of our athletic programs."
With the ability to offer high-definition replays, live in-game statistics and other promotions, the new video board greatly will enhance the game-day experience for student-athletes, the student body and fans while also serving as a resource for the entire campus community.
“The SEFCU Arena is a tremendous resource for the University at Albany and the entire Capital Region community,” The University at Albany Foundation President George R. Hearst III said. “This generous gift from Ed Swyer and Stuyvesant Plaza is an investment that will make Great Dane basketball games even more exciting for UAlbany students and fans for years to come.”
The Daktronics scoreboard includes 10 LED display screens, the largest of which is more than 7 feet high and 12 feet wide.
“As a longtime supporter of the University at Albany, Stuyvesant Plaza is honored to underwrite this new state-of-the-art equipment for the school’s outstanding athletic programs. The SEFCU Arena is one of the premier sporting venues in the Capital Region, and now fans, student-athletes and administrators have a top-of-the-line scoreboard to enjoy at each home game,” Stuyvesant Plaza President Ed Swyer said. “Stuyvesant Plaza is fortunate to have such an outstanding collegiate community as its neighbor. We look forward to seeing the Great Danes light up the new scoreboard this season and for many years to come.”
The new board will be used on game day for the first time when the UAlbany men’s basketball team opens its season at home Friday, Nov. 10, against Iona. The women’s team plays its first home game Sunday, Nov. 19, against Fordham.
Season tickets for both teams are available by phone at 518-442-DANE, online at UAlbanySports.com or at the SEFCU Arena box office.
