UAlbany Sports Information   03-04-2019

ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany Athletic Department announced Monday, March 4, that Deputy Athletic Director, Jerry Koloskie, will retire at the end of June.  “Jerry’s positive impact on our athletic department has been immeasurable," said Mark Benson, UAlbany's Athletic Director. "His 38 years of Division I athletic experience has been a tremendous resource for our coaches, student-athletes, administrators and staff.  Personally, he is one of the most honest and likeable people you could ever ask to work with. His relatability has earned him the nickname 'Uncle Jer' throughout the UAlbany campus.  It is my sincere hope and desire that he and Annette will remain an active part of our Purple Family.”

In his role as Deputy Athletic Director, Koloskie supervised football, men’s basketball, men’s and women’s track and field, men’s soccer and women’s volleyball.  Head football coach, Greg Gattuso noted, “In my 25 years in college athletics, I don’t think I ever worked with someone as knowledgeable as Jerry Koloskie.  He understands our business from every angle; administrator, student-athlete and coach.  Jerry always finds the best solution to any issue.  More importantly, he is a great friend.  I will miss his advice and wisdom, while I look forward to a new chapter in our friendship.”

Jerry’s administrative oversight also included internal operations and sports medicine.  He was appointed to both the America East Conference Championship Committee, as well as the Health and Safety committee.  In addition, Koloskie was named the university’s dedicated NCAA Healthcare Administrator.

Koloskie graduated from West Virginia University with a bachelor’s degree and earned his master’s degree from Iowa State University.  While there, he served as a Graduate Assistant in athletic training for their Big 8 football program.  Following his stint at Iowa State, Jerry spent the next 32 years at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV).  While at UNLV, Koloskie served as Director of Athletic Training, Deputy Athletic Director and Interim Athletic Director.  He was part of three Final Fours and one National Championship in men’s basketball, as well as a National Championship in men’s golf.

In January of 2015, Jerry and his wife of 37 years, Annette, moved from Las Vegas, NV to Albany, NY when Mark Benson named Koloskie as the Deputy Athletic Director at UAlbany.  “I would like to personally thank Athletic Director, Mark Benson for the opportunity to work with some of the best coaches, administrators and student-athletes that I have ever been involved with.  I truly want to thank President Rodríguez for his leadership and support of athletics; the university’s senior administration; our coaches and fellow administrators for their unwavering support during my tenure at UAlbany.  I will forever be a Great Dane!”

Jerry and Annette Koloskie plan to travel and visit their children and grandchildren during retirement, while remaining in their home in Saratoga, N.Y.
