UAlbany student-athletes excel in fall semester
ALBANY, N.Y. – University at Albany student-athletes posted a cumulative grade-point average of 3.14 for the fall semester, and 11 of the department’s 18 teams earned combined GPAs of 3.20 or better.
In total, 58.8 percent of UAlbany’s student-athletes had a semester GPA of 3.0 or higher, and 56.4 percent have a cumulative GPA at least 3.0.
“I would like to congratulate all of our student-athletes on their academic success and accomplishments,” Associate Athletic Director for Academic Services, Lori Friel, said. “I am so proud of each of them and their continued dedication and hard work in the classroom.”
The women’s soccer program posted the highest team GPA for the fall with a 3.65. The team has a cumulative GPA of 3.48.
“This is an extremely motivated group of young women both on and off the field,” Women’s Soccer Head Coach, Nick Bochette, said. “They have continually shown the drive and determination to achieve excellence, and displayed the maturity to do so during their busiest and most demanding time of the year. With four student-athletes achieving a perfect 4.0 and 17 earning over a 3.5 GPA, this has been an impressive semester. Our ethos, however, will not change; and we will aim to continue to improve in every way we can.”
Volleyball (3.46) and women’s lacrosse (3.41) also posted team GPAs better than 3.40.
Cross country posted the highest GPA of any men’s team, earning a 3.55. The program’s cumulative GPA is 3.32.
Additionally, five student-athletes graduated in December. From the football program, Nate Hatalsky, Nnamdi Nwaigwe and Jamal Robinson all graduated, as did Jeff Medina and Alfonso Pinheiro from men’s soccer.
