UAlbany Sports Information   03-12-2019

ALBANY, N.Y. — Sophomore Maranda Jimenez has been named the America East Pitcher of the Week for her contributions in a 2-3 showing for the UAlbany softball team at the Hampton Blue and White Classic in Virginia, as announced by the league on Tuesday.

The pitcher led the Great Danes in the circle over the weekend, boasting a 2.27 ERA, while holding opponents to a .081 batting average. She totaled a team-best 10 strikeouts in the circle and allowed just three hits across 12.1 innings of work.

Jimenez became a part of history on Sunday, recording her first career no-hitter against Norfolk State. The Riverside, Calif. native, racked up six strike outs as she became the 20th UAlbany pitcher, and first since 2014, to pitch a no-hitter.

Looking ahead, the Great Danes return to action on Wednesday, March 20 against Mount St. Mary’s in Emmmitsburg, Md.
