Short Story: The UAlbany softball team defeated Hartford 12-0 in the fifth inning in the first game of the series. The second and third games of the series will take place starting at 1:00pm on Saturday.
-UAlbany scored six runs in the first inning
-Kelly Barkevich hit a three-run home run in the second inning, followed by another home run in the fourth inning.
UAlbany’s McKenzie Bump opened up the first inning with a triple to right center field. Kelly Spear then singled to left field, which brought Bump around to score. Chelsea Henige followed up with a double that advanced Spear to third. Sarah Petzold drove in two runs with a single to left field that brought Henige and Spear around to score. Kelly Barkevich then hit an RBI-single up the middle. The Great Danes drove in two more runs before the conclusion of the first inning, giving them a six-run advantage over the Hawks.
In the second inning, Sarah Petzold and Katie Falotico both hit singles through the left side. Kelly Barkevich brought Petzold and Falotico home when she hit a home run to right field, bringing UAlbany’s lead to nine runs.
Kelly Barkevich hit her second home run of the game in the fourth inning.
The Great Danes ended the game in the fifth inning after scoring two more runs. The final score was 12-0.
