• Amelia Ely had three RBIs in the first game • Kelly Spear had three runs and three RBIs in the second game. • The Great Danes scored 13 runs by the third inning of the second game against Coppin State, ending the game in the fifth inning via run-ahead rule.
Coppin State scored the first run of the first game. The Great Danes came back in the second inning and scored four runs, giving them a three-run advantage. Among those runs was Amelia Ely’s RBI double that allowed Sarah Petzold and Kelly Barkevich to score.
At the bottom of the third inning, Coppin State scored two runs, narrowing the gap to a one-run advantage for UAlbany. UAlbany soon got the lead back after scoring two runs in the fourth inning and one in the fifth.
At the bottom of the seventh inning, Coppin State scored three runs. However, this was not enough to overtake the Great Danes. The final score of the first game was 8-6.
UAlbany started the second game off strong, scoring four runs in the first inning. Shaye Swiatek hit an RBI double to close out the first inning. Coppin State was able to score one run against the Great Danes at the bottom of the first inning.
UAlbany brought the same intensity to the second inning, scoring six more runs against Coppin State. Kelly Spear and Kelly Barkevich hit back-to-back RBI doubles. The Great Danes sealed their 12-run lead in the third inning when Amanda Mosall hit an RBI and Sarah Petzold hit an RBI double. The game ended 13-1 in the fifth inning via run-ahead rule.
The Great Danes will take the field again on March 24th and March 25th in Emmitsburg, Maryland where they will compete in the Mount St. Mary’s Tournament.
