ALBANY, N.Y. – Former associate head coach Nick Bochette has been promoted to serve as head coach of the UAlbany women’s soccer team.

Bochette has been with the program the last four years, including the last two as the associate head coach and the previous two as the first assistant coach under Caitlin Cucchiella.  Together, they led UAlbany women’s soccer to its first two America East Tournament titles and NCAA Tournament appearances.

Bochette was the acting head coach in the beginning of the 2015 season, leading the Great Danes to five non-conference victories, tying the most in program history in pre-America East play.

“I am excited and honored to have the opportunity to continue to work with this team, this athletic department and this university,” said Bochette. “I’d like to thank Mark Benson, Cara White and the entire administration for the faith they’ve shown in me and in this program.  This team of ambitious and fantastic young women is poised to drive us forward into tomorrow, and I’ve never felt more energized to be a part of this program.”

“Nick has played an integral role in the growth of our women’s soccer program.” said UAlbany director of athletics Mark Benson. “We are happy to have continuity with Nick to build off the success of the last two seasons.”

Bochette is the sixth head coach in UAlbany women’s soccer Division I history.  With him assisting the program, the Great Danes tied a program-record 11 wins in each 2015 and 2016 en route to America East Tournament titles plus a league regular season title in the latter year.  In addition, UAlbany earned the National Soccer Coaches Association (NSCAA) Team Academic Award all four seasons of his tenure for earning at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA during the academic season, currently standing at 3.45 for the team.

Before coming to UAlbany, Bochette was an assistant coach with the RPI men’s soccer team, helping the Engineers to three NCAA DIII Tournament appearances in 2008, 2009 and 2012.  He was part of the Liberty League Coaching Staff of the Year in all three of those seasons.

Bochette also served as the goalkeepers coach of the Adirondack Lynx of the Women’s Professional Soccer League and also an assistant coach at Hartwick College.  Along with coaching on the college and professional level, Bochette has also coached numerous youth teams. He served as the goalkeeping director of the NY Elite Soccer Club and the First Touch Futbol Academy from 2010-11. He coached the U-14 boys Clifton Park Premier team from 2005-06.  Bochette played professionally for the Wilmington Hammerheads from 2006-08.

A 2006 graduate of RPI, Bochette transferred from Oneonta in 2004 to spend the remainder of his collegiate career with the Engineers. He graduated with a degree in mathematics.  He lives with his wife, Megan, and his two daughters, Scarlett and Tessa.

Bochette takes over for Cuccheilla, who retired from collegiate coaching after the 2016 season.
