Coach Bochette: “We’re happy with a decent result on a tough day away from home.  We had to claw our way back into the game twice, and I was really happy with the resilience the group showed today.  It’s an exciting time, because we still have a lot of room to learn.  I was happy at the amount of chances we created today, but we need to do a better job of controlling things when we’re not on top of the game.  This was another step in the right direction though, and we can’t wait to give it another go on Tuesday.”

Recap

Playing their fourth of their first five games of the season on the road, the University at Albany women’s soccer team played Buffalo to a draw on Sunday, locking up with the Bulls 2-2 after two overtime periods.

Buffalo got on the board quickly, converting a penalty kick in the sixth minute.  The Bulls would take a 1-0 lead into the break after holding UAlbany’s offense scoreless in the first half, while outshooting the Great Danes 5-3 in the first 45 minutes.

UAlbany came out of halftime quickly, when Jada Colbert tied the game at one in the 51st minute.  Buffalo retook the lead in the 75th, only for Jasmine Colbert to score four minutes later, following a setup from Christina Cernuto, to lock the game up at two.

Sunday was the second time in their careers that Colbert twins have scored in the same game.  Previously, they had done so in the 2018 America East championship game against UMass Lowell, which Jasmine scoring two goals and Jada scoring one.

Regulation ended without an additional score, and the Great Danes entered their first overtime session of the 2019 season.  After two overtime periods, neither team found the back of the net, and the game ended in a 2-2 tie.  UAlbany goalkeeper Sophia Chen made her second-straight start, and recorded six saves.

Up next: UAlbany kicks off a four-game home stand starting Tuesday, September 10 against St. Francis Brooklyn.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
