Women's Soccer Announces 2019 Schedule

UAlbany Sports Information   06-13-2019

ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany women’s soccer program and head coach Nick Bochette have announced the team’s 2019 schedule.  The schedule consists of two exhibition games starting in early August followed by a 17 regular-season games leading into the 2019 America East Tournament in November.

Six of UAlbany’s 2019 opponents won more than 10 games last year, while one made an appearance in the NCAA Tournament.  The Great Danes will play Oklahoma, Northeastern, Army, Buffalo, UMBC, Yale, New Hampshire, Stony Brook, and Vermont on the road and will host Central Connecticut State, first-year program Saint Francis Brooklyn, Cornell, Hartford, crosstown rival Siena, Binghamton, UMass Lowell, and Maine.

“We’re enthused about our 2019 schedule and eager to start working toward our goals for the year,” said Bochette.  “After such a successful 2018 season, the team was adamant that we wanted to return stronger and build on that success.  So we set out to create an ambitious schedule that will challenge and push us as we prepare for another America East campaign, and I believe we’ve done just that.  We’ve added games against some big programs in Oklahoma, Yale, and Syracuse, and will test ourselves against teams from eight different conferences.  We have an exciting and dynamic group of student-athletes with a lot of new faces, and I believe such a diverse and demanding schedule is an ideal way to indoctrinate them to the college game.”

The 2018 Great Danes won their third America East title in the last four years, knocking off UMass Lowell in the championship game 5-1.  After finishing third during the regular season, UAlbany ripped through the tournament field, defeating New Hampshire for the second time in four games in the quarterfinals, Hartford on the road in the semifinals, and finally the Riverhawks in the championship.  UAlbany posted five consecutive shutouts leading up to the title game, and its five goals scored were the most in an America East championship game since Hartford scored eight in 1997.

UAlbany won eight of 10 home games in 2018, and will host eight regular-season games at Casey Stadium this season, including a stretch of four in a row from September 15 through September 25.  After opening up with three road games, UAlbany will play six of its next eight at home.  Since the 2014 season, UAlbany has gone 31-13-2 at home.

The Great Danes open 2019 with three straight games on the road starting at Oklahoma on August 22.  They will follow up with Northeastern, who won 10 games in 2018 before visiting Patriot League semifinalist Army to close out August.

The home slate begins on September first against the lone 2018 NCAA Tournament participant on the schedule, Central Connecticut State.  After a trip to Buffalo the Great Danes play each of their next four at home, including the America East opener against 2018 America East semifinal opponent Hartford, who led the conference for most of last season.  The home stand concludes with a visit from crosstown rival Siena on September 25.

UAlbany will visit 2018 America East quarterfinal opponent New Hampshire on October 13 ahead of a road game at 2018 America East regular season champion Stony Brook on October 17.  The Great Danes will see their first rematch against the Riverhawks at home on October 20.

Maine visits Casey Stadium on October 27 for the regular-season home finale before the regular season comes to a close at Vermont on October 31.

The America East Tournament begins with the quarterfinal round on November 3, followed by the semifinals on November 7, and the championship game on November 10.
