Short Story: Women’s soccer scores four goals for the second straight game, powered by two connections from Meghan Cavanaugh and Caroline Kopp, to knock off Maine on the road.

Coach Bochette: "This is an excellent three points for us. After a couple missteps early in conference play, I'm really excited by the way we've responded in the past two games. Maine is a good team, and it's not an easy trip to make. So to create and finish as many opportunities that we did is a big positive. Additionally, we have continued to show improved maturity and grit in our defending and I'm delighted that the ladies kept a clean sheet today."

Key Stats

  • Meghan Cavanaugh scored twice and recorded one assist
  • Caroline Kopp recorded two assists
  • UAlbany outshot Maine 14-9
  • Eleven of UAlbany’s 14 shots were on target
  • Maine goalkeeper, Annalena Kriebisch, made seven saves, including five in the first half

For the second straight game, the University at Albany women’s soccer team netted four goals against an America East opponent, this time dispatching Maine in shutout fashion, 4-0.

The Great Dane offense applied heavy pressure in the first half, taking five shots, all five of which were on target.  Maine’s goalkeeper Annalena Kriebisch met the challenge, makings save on all five shots.  Maine’s offense equaled UAlbany’s shot output, but none of their shots were on goal.  The Black Bears were able to apply their own pressure, drawing three corner kicks in the first half, compared to none for UAlbany.  After the first 45 minutes of play, neither team had managed to score a goal.

UAlbany broke through with two goals in quick succession following the halftime break.  In the 62nd minute, Meghan Cavanaugh put UAlbany up 1-0 off a free kick from Caroline Kopp.  Forty-three seconds of game time later, Cavanaugh set up Jada Colbert for UAlbany’s second goal.

The Great Danes’ third goal came nearly as quickly, in the 66th minute when Cavanaugh and Kopp connected for the second time.  Finally, Miranda Badovinac set up Sami Falkenstein for UAlbany’s fourth goal of the game in the 85th minute.  Maine was unable to create another scoring opportunity for the remainder of the game, leaving UAlbany to claim victory 4-0.

"We still have lots of hard work ahead of us," said head coach Nick Bochette. "There's some important games ahead of us, and we need to keep that desire and grit at peak levels."

UAlbany has now outscored its opponents 8-1 in its last two games.

Next: UAlbany plays its second-straight road game with a visit to Hartford, the top team in the America East, on Thursday, October 11.
