ALBANY, N.Y. – The Friends of Jaclyn Foundation has announced that the UAlbany women’s soccer team will adopt Abby this weekend as part of the Great Danes family.
The adoption will take place the annual UAlbany women’s soccer team banquet on Saturday at noon. Abby, who recently turned five-years-old, is fighting Pre-B Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. This acute form of leukemia most commonly affects children age 2-5. Abby and her family live in the Halfmoon area.
The Friends of Jaclyn Foundation’s mission is to improve the quality of life for children battling pediatric brain tumors and other childhood cancers and to raise awareness through their Adopt-A-Child, Safe on the Sidelines and Guardian Angel Programs. Numerous collegiate and high school teams around the country help the foundation’s cause.
The Foundation is run by Denis Murphy, father of Jaclyn and UAlbany Class of 1985.
“It is with great honor that we get to adopt Abby into our women’s soccer program and spend as much quality time with her, as she gains strength each and every day,” said UAlbany head coach Caitlin Cucchiella. “Her attitude and willingness to preserver over her Leukemia garners a lot of respect.”
In the fall, the UAlbany football team adopted Luke Hoag in support of the Friends of Jaclyn.
