ALBANY, N.Y. –Mackenzie Trpcic has been named Women’s Basketball Academic All-District 1 by the College Sports Information Directors of America, the organization announced Thursday. The Academic All-District teams recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.
Trpcic, a sophomore point guard from Hamilton, Ontario, was named to the All-District 1 First Team alongside seven other selections. District 1 includes Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont. Trpcic has accumulated a 3.95 GPA studying Biochemistry & Molecular Biology with a minor in Bioethics. She was named to the America East Commissioner’s Honor Roll for Winter/Spring 2017, and has been named to the UAlbany Dean’s List three times.
On the court, Trpcic leads the America East in assist, averaging 6.8 per game, which also ranks ninth in the country. She holds both the freshman and sophomore class assists records, with 103 last year and 184 and counting this year.
By virtue of being selected as a First Team representative, Trpcic is now eligible for Academic All-America consideration, three teams of which will be announced in March.
UAlbany has two games remaining in the 2017-18 regular season starting Thursday night at Binghamton and concluding Sunday afternoon at Maine. The America East tournament kicks off in Portland, Maine on Saturday, March 3.
