Women's Basketball Hosts UMBC on Senior Day
ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany women’s basketball team will host its final 2017-18 regular-season home game on Saturday when UMBC visits SEFCU Arena. After the game, the team will conduct a short ceremony recognizing the three seniors on this year’s roster: Bose Aiyalogbe, Tiana-Jo Carter, and Jessica Féquière.
Féquière is the team captain this season while Aiyalogbe and Carter serve as game captains. The three seniors each have played more than 2,000 minutes for UAlbany, and by the end of their careers will each have made more than 100 appearances and more than 50 starts. Since they have arrived on campus, the trio has contributed to four America East titles, (Féquière and Aiyalogbe are fifth-years), two 28-win seasons, and a 24-game home winning streak. Since Carter’s freshman season, the team has compiled an overall record of 94-32.
UAlbany (21-5, 10-3) last hosted Hartford, defeating the Hawks 66-53 and avenging the conference opening loss from January 3 at Hartford. The victory also matched last year’s win total with three games remaining in the regular season. Carter recorded five blocks in the game, enhancing her fourth double-double effort of the season, bringing her career total to 150, just one behind program record-holder Gia Sanders. Mackenzie Trpcic recorded 12 assists, her third game in the last four in double digits.
UMBC last played against Stony Brook, falling on the road to the Seawolves 53-49. The Retrievers have dropped each of the last three after defeating Vermont in Burlington on February 3. Last season, UMBC was the only team to beat UAlbany at SEFCU Arena, and the only America East team UAlbany did not beat. Each of the last two games with the Retrievers has been decided by three points.
UAlbany currently sits in second place in the America East standings, a half game behind Maine. UMBC is eighth and has the inside track to host the play-in game for the conference tournament.
Following the game against UMBC, UAlbany will play its final two regular season games on the road, at third-place Binghamton on February 22 and at first-place Maine on February 25. The America East tournament begins March 3 in Portland, Maine, where the quarterfinals and semifinals will be played on consecutive days.
