ALBANY, N.Y. – One week after debuting at #22 in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 poll, the Universtiy at Albany women’s basketball team has jumped three places to come in at #19 this week. The Great Danes now sit just one spot behind conference rival New Hampshire, who was selected as the preseason favorite in the America East this season.
UAlbany improved three spots by virtue of two victories last week in Puerto Rico. On Tuesday, UAlbany defeated Southern Illinois, and followed up the win with a victory over Northern Illinois on Thursday. The Huskies had been receiving votes in the Mid-Major poll, and amassed eight points this week despite the loss to the Great Danes.
UAlbany accumulated 225 points in the poll, immediately behind New Hampshire’s 272 points. The Wildcats, after dropping seven places last week, improved two spots this week. Green Bay retained its position atop the poll, earning 775 total points and 31 first-place votes.
The Great Danes return to action on Saturday, December 30 for the final game of 2017 when they host Dartmouth at SEFCU Arena. Dartmouth drew 17 points in the poll to fall narrowly outside the top-25. After the New Year, UAlbany will begin America East play at Hartford on January 3.
