UAlbany Sports Information   12-17-2017

ALBANY, N.Y. – Less than 12 hours after earning their eighth victory of the season, the University at Albany women’s basketball team will begin their week-long trip to San Juan, Puerto Rico where they will play in two games in the Puerto Rico Classic. Their first opponent will be Southern Illinois on Tuesday, December 19, followed by Northern Illinois on Thursday, December 21.

The Great Danes are currently riding their second four-game winning streak of the season, having just dispatched St. Bonaventure at SEFCU Arena 69-52. The first three wins came on a seven-day, three-game road trip at Holy Cross, at Manhattan, and at Siena. With the victory over the Bonnies, the Great Danes are now 2-1 this season against teams who defeated them last year.

Against St. Bonaventure, Mackenzie Trpcic scored eight of the Danes’ first 12 points in the first quarter, and finished the game with a career-best 21 points and a season-best nine assists. Jessica Féquière added 20 points of her own, marking the first time two Great Danes scored 20 or more since January 4, 2017 against UMass Lowell when Féquière had 20 and Imani Tate had 22. Tiana-Jo Carter recorded three blocks in the first half, bringing her career total to 133, 18 behind program leader Gia Sanders’ 151. As a team, UAlbany grabbed 52 rebounds, the most since grabbing 50 against Binghamton on March 8, 2016.

Southern Illinois most recently placed two straight home games, splitting results in a victory over Martin Methodist College and a loss against Western Kentucky. The Salukis, who opened the season 3-1, have lost three of their last five.

Northern Illinois is riding a three-game winning streak, with their one loss coming in the second game of a back-to-back during their Thanksgiving Tournament in San Antonio. Most recently, the Huskies dispatched the Cougars of Southern Illinois Edwardsville by 11 points. The Huskies now have two separate three-game winning streaks in 2017.

After returning from Puerto Rico, the Great Danes will play one final game in 2017 when they host Dartmouth on December 30. After the New Year, UAlbany will begin its conference schedule by visiting Hartford on January 3.
