BOSTON – The University at Albany women’s basketball team has been selected first in the preseason coaches’ poll, the conference offices announced Thursday. The Great Danes were selected first in the poll for the fifth consecutive season.
The preseason coaches’ poll is voted on by the league’s nine head coaches, who are not permitted to vote for their own team. UAlbany received five of a possible eight first-place votes, accumulating 60 points total.
UMBC, Maine, and Binghamton were selected second, third, and fourth respectively, with only four points separating the three teams. UMBC and Maine received two first-place votes each.
Last season, after a 15-1 regular season conference record which tied for first with Maine for the regular season title, the Great Danes won an unprecedented fifth-consecutive America East title, defeating the Black Bears in the tournament final 59-58. UAlbany went on to upset Florida in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
The Great Danes return eight players from last year’s record-breaking squad, including Imani Tate, who was just named to the preseason All-Conference team for the second consecutive season, and Tiana-Jo Carter, who was named America East Sixth Player of the Year last season.
Season tickets are currently on sale, starting as low as $50. For more information, visit ualbanysports.com/tickets, call the ticket office at 518-442-DANE, or email the ticket office at GreatDaneTickets@albany.edu.
