ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany women’s basketball team will host New Hampshire on Saturday in the team’s first America East home game of the 2017-18 season. The Wildcats were picked to finish first in the conference before the season started.
UAlbany (11-3, 0-1 AE) is coming off their first loss since November 30 against St. John’s. The Great Danes opened the conference slate this past Wednesday at Hartford. The Hawks, who gave UAlbany its toughest test in the conference tournament a year ago, defeated the Danes 70-55, and led by as many as 26.
New Hampshire opened conference play against UMBC, defeating the Retrievers by five points at home. The Wildcats have now won three in a row, last losing at Boston College in overtime on December 17. New Hampshire returns 2016-17 America East Player of the Year Carlie Pogue in its starting lineup.
UAlbany and New Hampshire split both meetings last season, with each team winning on their home court. UAlbany gave New Hampshire its lone America East defeat a year ago. A rubber match between the teams was denied by Maine, who defeated the Wildcats in the semifinals of the America East tournament. This season, New Hampshire and UAlbany rank 18th and 19th respectively in the women’s latest Mid-Major Top-25 poll.
Following the New Hampshire game, the Great Danes will visit Stony Brook before returning for two straight home games, first on Saturday, January 13 in the first of two regular-season rematches against America East championship game opponent Maine, and second on Monday, January 15 against Binghamton.
