Bernabei-McNamee Named BCANY Women's Coach Of The Year
ENDICOTT, N.Y. – University at Albany women's basketball head coach Joanna Bernabei-McNamee has been named as the 2017 Women's Division I Coach of the Year by the Basketball Coaches Association of New York, Inc.
In her first season, Coach Mac guided the Great Danes to 21 wins, including a record sixth consecutive America East title. After finishing second in the America East with a 12-4 conference record, the Danes powered through the tournament, defeating Vermont, Hartford, and Maine to claim their latest conference title. Their reward was an NCAA Tournament first round matchup against Connecticut, where the Great Dane season came to a close. UAlbany won 12 of its last 14 games to close the season.
Senior Imani Tate graduated as one of the most prolific players in program history, ranking second in career points, fifth in steals, and sixth in assists. Two freshman point guards, Mackenzie Trpcic and Khepera Stokes, each surpassed the previous freshman record for assists in a season, finishing with 103 and 95, respectively.
The BCANY Awards will be presented at the organization's fall clinic.
