ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany women’s basketball program (6-7) will kick off 2017 hosting UMass Lowell in the team’s 2016-17 conference opener.
The Great Danes remain unbeaten at home for the 2016-17 season, having run through the five-game, non-conference home schedule unscathed. The five wins, which came over Army, Boston University, Siena, Fairfield, and Post, have extended the Danes’ overall home winning streak to 22, dating back to February 1, 2014 against Maine.
UAlbany closed 2016 with two final non-conference games on the road, falling in both. The Danes lost at St. Bonaventure 67-59, and then lost in overtime at Darmouth 69-61. It was the team’s fourth overtime game so far this season.
Before dropping two straight to end the year, the Great Danes had ridden a three-game winning streak to climb above .500 for the first time all season. Now, the team finally has a home game for the first time since December 12, and will look to keep the home streak alive.
UMass Lowell most recently hosted Keene State, defeating the Owls 74-48 in what so far has been the Riverhawks’ biggest victory of their season.
The game against the Riverhawks is the first of two straight the Great Danes will play at home to open conference play. The team will host Stony Brook later this week, before heading back out on the road next week.
