An Ever-Improving Game Day Experience At SEFCU Arena

ALBANY, N.Y. – When University at Albany Director of Athletics Mark Benson stepped on campus in late 2014, he realized that for UAlbany Basketball to take the next step and continue to build upon the winning tradition already in place that improvements needed to be made to fabled SEFCU Arena. The arena opened in 1992 and provides a great home court advantage, but needed improved fan amenities. So right away, Benson began working with UAlbany President Robert J. Jones and University Development to come up with a plan that would incrementally bring SEFCU Arena to the forefront in the America East Conference.

“The time is right for us to invest in SEFCU Arena to improve the game day experience for our student-athletes, season ticket holders, fans and corporate partners,” stated Benson.

Over the past two seasons, many upgrades have been made including: a new lighting system, replay videoboard, player graphics added on the concourse level and the new Courtside Corner Hospitality. The new lighting system allows for more exciting “lights-out” pre-game player introductions as well as improved sightlines for our fans.  The videoboard affords the fans the opportunity to see replays of the in-game action, as well as the ability to interact through on-court promotions and fan cams. In addition, the player graphics around the concourse level give fans more insight into our student-athletes and improves the overall aesthetics of the arena.

Moving into the 2016-17 season, UAlbany fans can expect even more upgrades to SEFCU Arena. Fans will now see an additional replay videoboard, all-new LED interactive press tables and new Gold Level “NBA” style courtside seating and hospitality. UAlbany Athletics has also made commitments to repave the SEFCU Parking Lot, improve the ADA Handicap seating experience and has purchased new video equipment that will allow for an improved online streaming experience as well as an improved in-game experience.

“These upgrades are critical to our ability to continue to recruit great student-athletes as well as build our fan base,” added Benson. “As we continue to invest in our athletic program we will ask our fans to partner with us by investing in our newly created Great Dane Athletic Club (GDAC).”
