Coach Brown: “We had 12 turnovers in the game, six in each half I think.  It just seemed like in the second half we had a bunch of them in a row.  Ahmad getting in foul trouble really hurt us, and we played really passively when we got the ball into the heart of the defense.  We weren’t having success on the interior, and it seemed like we wanted the ball in that area less and less.  We didn’t make the big plays on defense when we needed to make them.  There were too many possessions in the final four minutes where we didn’t block out or we didn’t make a toughness play, and when both teams are scoring in the 50s, every possession matters, and it puts even more pressure on your defense.  I thought we lost a lot of momentum when Ahmad picked up his third and fourth fouls, because I thought we were still in control but it changes the dynamic of our team offensively.”

Hitting the road for the first time this season, the University at Albany men’s basketball paid a visit to Manhattan College Saturday night, their second-straight MAAC opponent.  After opening up an eight-point lead at halftime, Manhattan closed the gap and pulled away late to win 57-51, handing UAlbany its second loss of the season.

Using a 7-0 run lasting more than three-and-a-half minutes, UAlbany opened up a 12-4 lead with 12:39 left in the first, prompting a Manhattan timeout.  The defense had held Manhattan to 0-6 shooting from three to start the game, and just 1-10 shooting from the floor.

Malachi de Sousa hit a three following the timeout to extend UAlbany’s scoring run and give the Danes a 15-4 lead.

Manhattan hit a pair of free throws to end UAlbany’s run and cut the lead to 15-6 following the second media timeout of the first half.  The Jaspers next hit their first three, extending their run to 5-0, to cut the lead to six.  Hansen responded with a three on the other end to put UAlbany back ahead by nine.

Manhattan tied the game at 41 with 7:52 remaining in the second, capping off a 6-0 Jaspers run.  Healy hit two free-throws on the other end to put UAlbany back on top, bringing his streak to 13-straight to start the season and 14-straight since last year.

The Jaspers took their first lead following a corner three, 46-43, with 6:10 remaining.  Two minutes later, Healy put UAlbany back on top, 47-46, with a running layup.  On the Danes’ next possession, Adam Lulka hit a layup to put UAlbany up 49-46 with 3:52 remaining.

A foul in transition sent Manhattan to the line, where the Jaspers hit both to take a 50-49 lead with 2:32 to go.

A foul-and-one put Manhattan up four with 47 seconds remaining.  A missed shot from Hansen led to a Manhattan rebound, but the Jaspers threw the ball away on the outlet, allowing UAlbany to retain possession with 31.3 to go.

With 14.8 to go, Manhattan hit one of two free throws to go up five.  The Jaspers would go on to win 57-51, ending the game on a 7-0 scoring run.
