BOSTON – The University at Albany men’s basketball team had three players earn America East All-Conference honors, the conference offices announced Friday. Devonte Campbell, Ahmad Clark, and Cameron Healy, were the Great Danes recognized with regular-season awards.
Campbell, a senior forward from Vaughan, Ontario, was named to the All-Defensive team for the third straight season. Traditionally drawing the opposing team’s best offensive player, Campbell took up the Great Danes’ primary leadership role during the spring before anchoring the UAlbany starting lineup with his experience when the season began. Towards the end of the non-conference schedule, a lineup change saw Campbell moved from the starting lineup to the first player off the bench to better take advantage of his versatile skill set and address the production drop-off issues the Great Danes had been experiencing when making substitutions for starters. Campbell has now earned All-Defensive honors more times than any other player in UAlbany program history.
Clark, a junior guard from Bowie, Md., was named All-Conference Third Team. Clark is the second leading scorer on the team, averaging 15.8 points per game, and he leads the America East in assists, averaging 4.3 per game. Clark is one of the most improved players in the country in terms of scoring, having averaged 3.7 points per game last year.
Healy, a redshirt-freshman guard from Sydney, Australia, was named All-Conference Third Team, alongside Clark, and was also named to the All-Rookie Team. Healy is UAlbany’s leading scorer this season, averaging 16.2 points per game. He broke UAlbany’s single-season record for made three pointers, and leads the America East with 3.3 threes per game and in free throw percentage at .893.
Vermont’s Anthony Lamb was the unanimous pick for Player of the Year. Stony Brook’s Jeff Otchere was named Defensive Player of the Year, and the Seawolves’ Andrew Garcia was named Sixth Man of the Year. Binghamton’s Sam Sessoms won Rookie of the Year, and Vermont’s John Becker was named Coach of the Year.
UAlbany finished the regular season 12-19 overall and 7-9 in-conference, and plays #3 UMBC in the America East quarterfinal on Saturday, March 9. Tipoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
