ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany men's basketball team will wear one-of-a-kind uniforms, featuring the “State” wordmark on the front, on Feb. 23 against UMBC at SEFCU Arena for our “Throwback Game.” They reflect the uniforms worn by the team during the era when the school was known as the New York State College for Teachers, the mascot was “Peduin” the Penguin, and the nickname was the “Pedagogues,” or Peds.
Eight of the game-worn jerseys are now available to fans through an online auction that begins Monday, Feb. 11.
In honor of UAlbany celebrating its 175th anniversary, bidding for the uniforms will start at $175. The bidding will remain live through 5 p.m. on Feb. 25.
The auction is made possible through UAlbany Athletics’ new partnership with Live Source, LLC, a San Diego based start-up that offers an in-the-moment mobile auction platform during sporting and fundraising events.
UAlbany will be using the Live Source mobile app to offer fans opportunities for unique memorabilia and fan experiences during various future athletics related events.
"We are very excited to be partnering with a platform such as Live Source," said Vic Cegles, Associate Athletic Director for Revenue Enhancement. "Partnering with Live Source will add a new and exciting element during our games, allowing fans of UAlbany Athletics to bid on exclusive items from their phones. Funds raised from this effort will be allocated in its entirety to help provide our student-athletes with a first-class NCAA Division I collegiate experience."
