BOSTON – A career night in the Big Purple Growl over the weekend has earned University at Albany freshman Cameron Healy his second America East Rookie of the Week award, the conference offices announced Monday. Healy was named alongside Maine’s Andrew Fleming.
Healy, a guard from Sydney, Australia, averaged 23.5 points and 6.0 rebounds last week, helping guide the Great Danes to a 2-0 record. Healy had a breakthrough game against Binghamton on Saturday, recording career-highs with 31 points, 10 rebounds, 11 field goals, and nine threes. His nine baskets from deep tie a single-game program record originally set in 2001 by E.J. Gallup, who shot 9-15 from three, as Healy did, against Army. Additionally, though he did not attempt a free throw against Binghamton, Healy’s consecutive made free-throws streak remains at 18.
Healy’s selection marks two straight weeks a UAlbany player has been named Rookie of the Week, following last week’s recipient Antonio Rizzuto. In total, a UAlbany player has been named Rookie of the Week three times this season.
UAlbany begins the second half of America East play on Saturday, February 9 at Vermont.
