Four Great Danes Honored in AE Men's Basketball Awards
ALBANY, N.Y. – Four Great Danes were recognized by the America East in the league’s men’s basketball awards, announced on Thursday.
All America East awards were voted on by the league’s head coaches and announced on the Thursday before the quarterfinal of the conference tournament.
Cremo earns his second all-conference in as many years, being on the Second Team last season. Standing fourth in the league with 17.6 points per game and third with 3.9 assists per game, the junior guard has scored in double figures in all but two games this year. He also is in the top-10 in the league in field goal %, 3-point field goal % and free throw %. In the classroom, Cremo earns his second straight All-Academic Team honor with a 3.36 GPA, majoring in communication.
Charles is honored as an All-Conference player for the first time in his career. The graduate student is one of the America East’s top scorers, being ninth in the America East with 14.9 points per game, third in field goal % at 55.2%, fifth in free throw % at 81.9% and 10th in rebounds per game with 5.6 a contest. He netted double digit points in 26 of 30 games played.
Campbell returns to the All-Defensive Team for the second time in as many years with the Great Danes. The junior guard is often tasked with guarding the top scorer on the opposing team, starting all 30 games. On the offensive side, Campbell is averaging 6.9 points and 4.2 rebounds per game.
Nichols, a CoSIDA Academic All-District I honoree, lands on the All-Academic Team for the second straight season. He has the top GPA among the Great Danes with 3.91 GPA in communications. On the court, the junior guard is in the top-10 in the America East with 14.8 points per game and 3.4 assists per game, scoring in double figures in 25 games this year.
In the yearly awards: Trae Bell-Haynes repeated as America East Player of the Year, K.J. Maura of UMBC is the Defensive Player of the Year, Cam Ward of Vermont was voted the Sixth Man of the Year, Elijah Olaniyi of Stony Brook is the Rookie of the Year and the Coach of the Year is shared by John Gallagher of Hartford and John Becker of Vermont.
