UAlbany Men's Basketball Opens AE Play vs. Hartford on Wednesday
ALBANY, N.Y. – America East play will commence on Wednesday, January 3rd as the UAlbany men’s basketball team hosts Hartford at 7 p.m. at the SEFCU Arena for the first game of 2018.
The game will be broadcast online on AE on ESPN3, with Rodger Wyland on the call. Brian Mariano will be on the radio call on 104.5 the Team.

January 3rd is the first date of America East play for six of the league’s nine teams, including the opener for both UAlbany and Hartford.
This is a rematch of last year’s America East Tournament quarterfinal round. On March 1, 2017, 3-seed UAlbany defeated 6-seed Hartford 100-71 to advance to the semifinal round.
UAlbany, picked to finish second in the America East in the preseason coaches poll, got back in the win column on Thursday night with a 78-68 home victory over Kent State to improve to 12-3 overall. Hartford is coming off a 60-58 victory at Rutgers on Thursday night for its second straight win, standing with a 7-7 overall record.
UAlbany’s win in the AE quarterfinals over Hartford was its third straight win over the Hawks, and 12th in the last 14 meetings. UAlbany leads the all-time series 22-12.

UALBANY PREDICTED TO FINISH 2ND IN AMERICA EAST PRESEASON POLL: UAlbany has been predicted to finish second in the America East Conference in the 2017-18 season in the preseason coaches poll.
UAlbany finished tied for third place last year with a 10-6 record. Finishing 21-14 overall, the Great Danes defeated Hartford and Stony Brook in the AE Tournament to earn a berth in the title game, falling to Vermont. Vermont was unanimously picked to finish first in the league with eight first-place votes and 64 points.
BOX OUT!: Through 15 games, UAlbany has outrebounded its opponents in all but one contest, standing with the best rebounding margin in the America East at +9.0, and 15th in all of Division I. Auburn is the only team to outrebound their opponents in all games to begin the year. Second in the league is New Hampshire at +8.7. Greig Stire (7.8) and Travis Charles (5.8) stand in the top-11 in the America East in rebounding.
SEVEN WINNING LEAGUE SEASONS IN A ROW: UAlbany has earned a winning record in America East play each of the past seven seasons starting in the 2010-11 year, including a combined 28-4 tally from 2015-16. UAlbany has earned 10 winning seasons in America East play in the last 12 years under Will Brown.
CAPITAL DISTRICT LOCALS: Three players local to the Capital District have remained home to suit up for the Great Danes this season.
From nearby Scotia comes junior Joe Cremo, a three-time Section II Class A champion at Scotia-Glenville, who earned 2015-16 America East Rookie of the Year. Senior forward Greig Stire has started the last three years in the frontcourt, taking Christian Brothers Academy in Albany to the 2012 Section II title. At Albany Academy, sophomore Nick Fruscio took his team to a pair of Federation state titles, including as a senior team captain.
SCOUTING HARTFORD: Hartford has three players that average double digit points per game. Redshirt junior forward John Carroll is the team’s leading scorer and rebounder with 17.1 points and 6.4 boards a contest. Junior guard Jason Dunne is the three-point shooter at 37.4% for 15.9 points a game while classmate J.R. Lynch gets 12.5 points, 3.9 assists and 4.6 rebounds per contest.
