UAlbany Men's Basketball Starts December vs. In-State Foe Columbia
ALBANY, N.Y. – The UAlbany men’s basketball team continues its homestand with an in-state opponent, welcoming in Columbia to the SEFCU Arena on Saturday, December 2nd at 7 p.m.
The game will be broadcast online on AE on ESPN3, with Rodger Wyland and Jeremy Friel on the call. Brian Mariano will have the radio call on 104.5 the Team.

This is the first UAlbany game in December after the Great Danes went 7-1 in November.
UAlbany, from the America East, returned to the win column on Wednesday with a 75-69 home victory over Colgate to improve to 8-1. Columbia fell at Connecticut 77-73 in overtime on Wednesday to suffer its fourth straight defeat, going to 1-5 this season.
The two met last season on December 30, 2016, in New York City, with UAlbany winning 70-67. That was the first meeting since 2008. UAlbany has won the last four meetings to lead the all-time series 4-1.
UAlbany can earn a sweep over Ivy League opponents with a win on Saturday having earned wins over Yale and Dartmouth. Columbia has future games against America East members Stony Brook and Maine.
TOP SHOOTING TEAM IN THE AMERICA EAST: Through eight games in the season, UAlbany stands with the third highest scoring offense in the America East, earning 82 points per game, including four 80+ point games, with a conference best 49.8% field goal rate.
UALBANY RANKED #5 MID-MAJOR IN NATION: UAlbany is ranked #5 in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top-25, released on Monday, November 27th. UAlbany is also the top-ranked mid-major team in the state of New York and second in the America East.
CREMO JOINS 1,000-POINT CLUB: With a 30-point performance vs. Holy Cross on November 25th, Joe Cremo surpassed the career 1,000-point mark.
Joe Cremo now stands with 1,032 career points, having averaged 13.6 points per game in his career. Cremo earned the 1,000-point mark in 74 games played.
David Nichols currently has 791 points, including 625 in the 2016-17 year, the second-highest single season in UAlbany history. Nichols is 209 points away from 1,000.
Along with Cremo, ten UAlbany players have scored over 1,000 points in the DI era.
BOX OUT!: Through eight games, UAlbany has outrebounded its opponents in all contests, standing with the best rebounding margin in the America East at +12.1. Second in the league is Vermont at +4.4. Travis Charles (6.6) and Greig Stire (6.4) stand in the top-10 in the America East in rebounding.
THE WALKING BUCKET: Nicknamed the “Walking Bucket” by head coach Will Brown after the win over Colgate, Travis Charles has earned double digit points in all eight games this season for UAlbany, averaging 15.8 points per contest and shooting 65.8% from the field. He is also the team’s leading rebounder at 6.6 boards a contest.
STREAKS: Greig Stire has earned at least one board in each of the past 79 games, including a single game record 15 rebounds at Hartford on January 22nd, 2017.
Joe Cremo has scored points in each of his last 74 games going back to Nov. 19, 2015. Cremo has also dished out at least one assist in each of the past 38 games. David Nichols, scoring in each game all of 2016-17, is on a 45-game scoring streak. Stire has scored in 33 consecutive games while Travis Charles has a 28-game scoring streak.
UALBANY TO COMPETE IN GOTHAM CLASSIC: UAlbany will be competing in the in-season round robin tournament Gotham Classic, composing of four games at campus sites.
UAlbany will host Bryant on December 6th to begin the tournament, followed by the Albany Cup vs. Siena on December 9th at the Times Union Center. UAlbany then has games at Memphis on December 12th and at Louisville on December 20th.
The tournament is headlined by a contest between Memphis and Louisville on December 16th at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The Gotham Classic has been played since 2012, with UAlbany making its first appearance.
WELCOME TO NEW YORK: UAlbany will play ten regular season games against teams from the Empire State, including seven at home. UAlbany will take on Iona, Oneonta, Colgate, Columbia, Siena, Canisius, Stony Brook (twice) and Binghamton (twice). This season, UAlbany is 3-0 against in-state opponents.
SCOUTING COLUMBIA: Columbia has fallen in its last three games by 10 points or fewer and is playing in its seven straight road contest. Sophomore guard Mike Smith is the leading scorer at 16.2 points, 3.8 assists and 1.2 steals per game, while Lukas Meisner is the primary player in the post with 13.5 points and 7.5 rebounds a game.
