UAlbany Men's Basketball Names Team Captains for 2017-18 Season
ALBANY, N.Y. – The UAlbany men’s basketball team has named its team captains for the 2017-18 season.
“I am excited to name Greig, Travis, Joe, and David as our captains for the 17-18 season; this is only the second time in my tenure at UAlbany that we have named four captains,” said UAlbany head coach Will Brown.
Cremo will serve as a captain for the second straight season. Charles, Nichols and Stire are all captains for the first time.
“Greig and Travis are tremendous competitors who I am confident can have a major impact as senior leaders on the court and in the locker room, and Joe and David are obviously talented individuals but they also have a strong desire to be successful in everything that they do,” said Brown. “I expect that winning mindset to be contagious. Being a captain comes with a lot of responsibility and we as a staff are confident that these four individuals will have a positive impact on our team and program this season.”
Charles returned from a heart condition in 2015 to be the team’s top scorer off the bench last year, shooting 61.3% from the field for 7.9 points and 3.5 rebounds per game.
Cremo earned America East All-Conference Second Team honors last season, starting all 35 games. The junior finished ninth in the America East with 15.8 points per game and sixth with 3.8 assists per game last year.
Nichols was the first-ever UAlbany sophomore to earn America East All-Conference First Team honors last season. Fourth in the America East with 17.9 points a game, he scored a program single season record 248 field goals.
Stire has started each of the past two years and was the team’s leading rebounder last year, grabbing six per game. He shot 56.3% from the field for 7.1 points a contest.
