Quote: “Costello Athletic Center is a tough place to play, a definite home court advantage and we struggled a little getting familiar with the environment.  Our blocking helped keep us in the match tonight, and overall, I’m very happy with the play of our middles and that we were able to play through some of UML’s tough servers to come out with the win.” – UAlbany head coach MJ Engstrom

Recap: The UAlbany volleyball team notched its sixth consecutive victory on Friday night, taking down UMass Lowell in three sets to hold first place in the America East.

With three early kills from Chloe Evering, UAlbany took a 9-5 advantage in the first set.  UML took the next four to tie the set, then UAlbany countered with its own 4-0 run, including a kill and block from Danielle Tedesco, to lead 13-9.  At 15-12, UAlbany won the following six points, with Taylor Robinson notching a kill and blocking two attacks, to go up 21-12.  UAlbany eventually took the set 25-15, with its last three points coming on kills from different players.

Kelly Cameron and Nina Holmes served UAlbany to an early 6-1 lead in the first set.  Kills from Katherine Claybaugh helped UML rally to lead 10-9.  The back and forth continued as UAlbany retook the lead with Tatiana Tiangco kills to go ahead 18-16, then UML retook the advantage at 20-19, and again at 21-20.  An Evering kill, Tiangco kill, Gabrielle Hansen ace, Tiangco kill and a Robinson-Tiangco combo block made a set-ending 5-0 run as UAlbany took the game 25-20 to lead 2-0 in the match.
