Desma Colburn Finalizes Volleyball Staff
Colburn brings significant experience as both a player and coach to the UAlbany sidelines, most recently serving as an assistant coach at Princeton from 2015-2017.
“I am very excited to welcome Desma to the staff,” said Pickard. “She has an excellent volleyball background and will complement the staff well. Her playing history, both foreign and domestic, will give our athletes another great perspective. With her addition we have a very well rounded staff who will help us to compete for America East Championships."
In the first season at Princeton, the former Oregon State standout helped the Tigers capture the Ivy League Tournament. Colburn also spent nearly a decade in Europe as both a player and assistant coach.
Colburn’s European playing days began with a two-year stint at Voley Murcia in Spain, where she was a two-time captain. She played several years afterwards on top French Teams (USSPA Albi and TFOC Terville in the Fem Pro A), serving as the TFCO Terville team captain. Colburn also spent time in Germany, where she both played and coached at TVS Ansbach.
"I am thoroughly excited for this new opportunity with the UAlbany Volleyball program,” said Colburn. “Josh and Adam Rollman have a wealth of knowledge that I can’t wait to learn from. This program is a great place to be with its welcoming family environment, from staff to players, that made me feel at home right away.”
Colburn graduated from Oregon State in 2006 with a degree in photography. She was a four-year starter for the Beavers where she is among their program leader in assists. She had a career-high 75 assists in a match against St. Mary's, and 20 digs against Oregon.
“I anticipate a lot of growth from these young women on and off the court,” said Colburn. “I am especially excited to get into the gym with the setters and bring them to the next level running an offense the likes of which this conference has yet to see! Go Danes!"
