Short Story: The UAlbany volleyball team won its third straight match and in turn captured the FGCU Invitational with a three-set sweep of West Virginia on Saturday afternoon.
Akuabata Okenwas was named the MVP of the tournament and was joined on the all-tournament squad by Kelly Cameron and Nicole Otero. It was the second straight tournament honor for Okenwa, who earned all-tournament accolades last week at the Black Knights Invitational.
UAlbany: Chloe Evering paced all Great Danes with 12 kills and four blocks. Akuabata Okenwa added 10 kills while Danielle Tedeco notched four blocks and two aces. Nicole Otero racked up 18 digs and Kelly Cameron led the way with 31 assists. Newcomer Grace Cozad continues to impress as she put together a seven-kill performance.
West Virginia: Katie Demeo hit for .481 and added 10 kills and four blocks while Kristin Lux posted nine kills for the Mountaineers.
The Great Danes finished the FGCU Invitational as the only undefeated team (3-0).
UAlbany has swept two of its last three matches.
The Great Danes are currently on a three-game win streak.
UAlbany: A 7-1 run early in the second set grew the Great Danes lead to seven points, 16-9. A West Virginia attack error began the scoring run which was followed by a kill from Evering and two fby Courtney O’Connell. The Great Danes stayed hot and kept their lead, going on to win the set 25-15.

UAlbany is back in action next weekend taking on Michigan State on Friday, Sept. 14 to kick off the Michigan State Invitational.
