UAlbany Volleyball Announces 2018 Schedule
ALBANY, N.Y. – The reigning America East regular season champion UAlbany volleyball team has released its 2018 schedule, including matches up and down the East Coast.
UAlbany is set to compete in four in-season tournaments to begin the year, a revival of the rivalry vs. Siena, then a full America East slate. In total, UAlbany will play in seven home matches at the University Gym in the regular season.
“Our pre-conference schedule this year brings us to two tournaments hosted by Big Ten teams,” said UAlbany head coach MJ Engstrom. “Additionally, we are making a trip down to Florida for the first time since 2011 to play Florida Gulf Coast. We are playing some perennially great teams from Power Five conferences this season in Ohio State, Texas A&M, West Virginia and Michigan State.”
The Great Danes will play 25 regular season matches in eight different states and against representatives from 12 different conferences. 18 matches will be against opponents that had double digit victories in 2017, including three teams that played in the postseason.
Last year, UAlbany earned its second America East regular season title in three years, finishing 11-1 in the league and 11-15 overall. The Great Danes return Nicole Otero, the reigning America East Defensive Specialist of the Year, fellow America East All-Conference First Team player Akuabata Okenwa at outside hitter as well as the league’s Co-Rookie of the Year Tatiana Tiangco.
