UAlbany Duo Earns America East Volleyball Weekly Honors

ALBANY, N.Y. – Two UAlbany volleyball players, Nicole Otero and Kelly Cameron, have been honored with America East weekly awards.

Otero was selected as the America East Defensive Specialist of the Week while Cameron is the America East Setter of the Week.

Each player earned their first conference weekly award of the season.  Otero has 11 defensive specialist awards in her career while Cameron picked up her first weekly honor.  In total, UAlbany has four weekly league awards, one each of player, rookie, setter and defensive specialist.

Otero and Cameron won weekly awards after helping UAlbany sweep Hartford on Friday night, improving the Great Danes to 3-1 in league play, tying the team for first place.

Otero averaged seven digs per set as the UAlbany libero, totaling 21 in the match vs. Hartford, including nine in the third set finale.

Cameron served as the UAlbany setter, finishing with 34 assists, three kills and three digs.  UAlbany as a team hit .269, the highest percentage in a match this season. 

UAlbany next plays on Sunday, October 15th at 2 p.m. against Stony Brook for the annual Dig Pink match.
