Three UAlbany Volleyball Players Honored on 2016 America East All-Conference Teams
All three were placed on the America East All-Conference Second Team.
Dolan is UAlbany’s first four-year all-conference player since Laurie Gonzalez and Brooke Stanley were in 2011. The senior middle blocker is the America East leader in blocks per set at 1.22 and is seventh with a .238 hitting percentage. Starting all 24 matches, Dolan stands with 176 kills and 115 total blocks, one of two America East players with triple digit blocks and kills. Having earned her degree, she joins the All-Academic Team, graduating in business administration with a 3.49 GPA.
Leindecker, UAlbany’s primary six-rotation player, earns all-conference honors for the third season running. She is one of two America East players in the top-7 in kills and digs per set at 2.98 (5th) and 3.20 (7th) respectively. A member of the 1,000-kill and 1,000-dig clubs, the senior outside hitter leads UAlbany with 280 kills, adding 301 digs and 18 service aces, finishing with 15 double-doubles. She is honored on the All-Academic Team for the second straight season with a 3.73 GPA in human biology.
Otero, UAlbany’s libero in all but one match this season, is placed on the America East All-Conference teams for the second time in as many years. The sophomore is second in the America East with 4.93 digs per set and 0.37 service aces per game. Playing in 23 matches, she has a UAlbany-best 444 digs and 33 service aces, picking up double digit digs in 21 matches this season.
McCauley, the two-time reigning America East Elite 18 award winner, stands on the conference’s All-Academic Team for the third season in a row. She leads all members of the team with a 3.98 GPA, graduating last spring in psychology. On the court, she is UAlbany’s primary setter, standing in the top-12 in assists and digs per set in the league, totaling 713 assists, 224 digs, 51 blocks and 10 aces.
Evering is UAlbany’s first outside hitter to be named America East All-Rookie since 2011. Burying double digit kills in 13 matches this season, the freshman is seventh in the conference with 2.83 kills per set, totaling 266 on the year for second on the team. She also is 14th in the America East with a .201 hitting percentage.
Okenwa is the first middle blocker from UAlbany to join the All-Rookie Team since 2013. The redshirt freshman in is the top-20 in the America East in blocks per set at 0.93 (7th), hitting percentage at .198 (15th) and kills per set at 2.24 (18th). In 22 matches, she has totaled 193 kills and 80 total blocks, notching multiple kills and at least one block in every match played.
The teams were announced at the annual America East Volleyball Tournament banquet in Durham on Thursday night.
In the America East major awards, Demi Muses of UNH is Player of the Year, Kristin Watson of UMBC is Defensive Specialist of the Year, Keelin Severtson of UNH is Setter of the Year, Lauren Kornmann of Binghamton is Rookie of the Year and the Binghamton staff is the Coaching Staff of the Year.
UAlbany now heads back to the court, opening the America East Tournament semifinal round against UMBC on Friday, November 18th at 4 p.m.
