Women’s Tennis Caps Off Season in 4-0 Defeat at No. 12 Oklahoma State

STILLWATER, OKLA. – University at Albany women’s tennis (14-8) saw its 2015-16 campaign come to a close on Friday afternoon, falling 4-0 to No. 12 Oklahoma State in the NCAA First Round. The Pokes extended their home winning streak to 17 matches on a hot day in Stillwater.

“We gave it our best shot today,” said head coach Gordon Graham. “We started out strong in doubles and it looked for a while like we could take the No. 1 and No. 3 matches; but OSU was just too good. I'm really proud of this team, the effort they put forth today and all season.”

The Purple & Gold jumped out to a lead in both No. 3 and No. 1 doubles. The No. 3 tandem of Chassidy King and Jovana Kenic came within two points of the Cowgirls pair, and their match was abandoned with the score just 5-4 in favor of OSU. Paulina Torres and Ana Glumac took an early 2-1 lead, but their opponents, ranked #43 in the nation, rattled off four straight games to take their match and clinch the doubles point.

Senior co-captain, Dajana Ognjenovic, led the Danes by winning five games in under two sets, and was leading in the second when the match was clinched and her No. 4 singles match was abandoned

At No. 1, Kenic had her 18 match winning streak ended by the No. 44-ranked player in the country, Vladica Babic, 6-2,6-1. Glumac (No. 5) and Pejovic (No. 6) were both down a set and 3-1, when the match was clinched.
