Recap

The second-seeded UAlbany baseball team fell in its opening game of the America East Tournament on Thursday, dropping a lopsided affair to the host and three-seed Binghamton Bearcats 18-4.  UAlbany now moves into the elimination bracket where they will face off against either four-seed UMass Lowell or six-seed Hartford.

UAlbany entered the America East Tournament riding a nine-game winning streak in which they outscored their opponents 46-12, and were starting their ace, Dominic Savino, who had won each of his last four starts.

Binghamton got on the board early, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning.  The Bearcats scored once in the top of the second before blowing open the game with seven in the top of the third to take a 10-0 lead.

Marc Wangenstein led off the bottom of the fourth with a double, and advanced to third on a wild pitch.  He scored when Patrick Lagravinese hit a sacrifice fly to center, beating out the play at the plate to put UAlbany on the board.

Hunter Torres relieved Savino in the top of the fifth.  In this inning, Binghamton added four more runs to go up 14-1.

UAlbany scored once in the bottom of the sixth.  With two outs and no one on, Lagravinese drew a four-pitch walk and scored when Brad Malm hit an RBI double to center.

Binghamton scored four more times in the top of the eighth to take an 18-2 lead.  The Great Danes scored two final runs in the bottom of the ninth, bringing the final score to 18-4.

Shortstop Nick Kondo extending his hitting streak to 15 games, going 1-3 with two walks and one run scored.  Savino lasted 4.0 innings, allowing 10 runs, nine earned, on 12 hits with three strikeouts and one walk.  In relief, Daniel St. Clair and Jack DePaolo-Boisvert each pitched 2.0 shutout innings, combining for three strikeouts and one hit.
