Ten Great Danes Earn AE Presidential Scholar-Athlete Honors
BOSTON, Mass. – Ten University at Albany student-athletes have been honored with the America East Presidential Scholar-Athlete Award, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon.
The America East honored 61 student-athletes and the Great Danes had the second most honorees of any school in the conference.
Erik Dluhy, Matt Perla, Alex Brown and Noah Taylor from the men’s lacrosse program all earned the distinction, while Cara Sherman and Victoria Stoffel were honored from the women’s cross country and track and field team. Dan Yankowski from baseball, Alec Ambruso from men’s cross country, Kelly Barkevich of the softball team and Savanah Courtney from women’s soccer were also recognized for their excellence in the classroom.
The award recognizes student-athletes who compiled a cumulative career GPA of 3.75 or higher as an undergraduate student and graduate this spring.
The Presidential Scholar-Athlete Award was approved by the America East Board of Presidents in June of 2013 and was implemented for the 2013-14 academic year. In total, 350 elite student-athletes have been honored as part of the program.
