BOSTON – The University at Albany baseball team has been picked to finish fourth in the America East in 2018, the conference offices announced Thursday. The Great Danes pulled in 17 points, six more than they did last season.
Binghamton was the unanimous pick to finish first for the second consecutive season, tallying all six first-place votes and a total of 36 points. 2017 America East Tournament runner-up Maine was selected second, collecting 29 points. Stony Brook was third just one point behind Maine, receiving the lone remaining first-place vote. 2017 America East champion UMBC drew 15 points in sixth place.
Votes are cast by the conference’s seven head coaches who are not permitted to vote for their own team.
Last season, the Great Danes went 26-26 overall, including 10-13 in the America East. UAlbany improved by three wins overall from the 2016 season. After drawing the four-seed and winning their first two games of the America East Tournament, over fifth-seed Maine and top seed Binghamton, UAlbany fell in consecutive games to UMBC and Maine to end their postseason run.
